In a nation as politically vibrant and emotionally
charged as India, moments of silence often carry more weight than moments of
noise. One such moment emerged from what has now come to be described as “those
90 minutes” — a closed-door interaction reportedly led by Ajit Doval, the ace National
Security adviser, within the corridors of the P.M.O. (Prime Minister’s Office)
on April 18th, 2026.
At first glance, the meeting appeared routine,
almost procedural. But its timing, its participants, and its underlying message
suggested something far deeper: a calibrated intervention in India’s long-term
national trajectory. While the public discourse was absorbed
elsewhere—political contests, social debates, and global distractions—this
quiet engagement unfolded with strategic precision- ‘we sail or
sink together’.
What transpired was not merely a meeting; it was a
signal of transformation towards national integration.
The PMO’s: ‘Those 90 Minutes’: A Strategic Pause in a Noisy Democracy:
Why 90 minutes? In statecraft,
duration often reflects depth. This was neither a ceremonial courtesy call nor
a brief consultation. It was a sustained
dialogue—suggesting urgency, seriousness and accountability to the nation.
The strategic significance lies in three dimensions:
1.
Timing – The nation’s attention was diverted. This allowed for a more candid,
less performativity exchange.
2. Participants – Influential
Muslim leaders, intellectuals, and businessmen were invited—not as
representatives of grievance, but as stakeholders in national development.
3. Leadership – Ajit Doval,
a figure synonymous with national security, strategic foresight, and quiet
diplomacy, piloted the meeting.
This
combination points toward a shift from reactive governance to proactive
integration aiming at the distant future.
Why Ajit Doval? The Messenger Matters:
Doval’s operation aims at the intersection of: i) Security and
society ii) Intelligence and integration iii) Strategy and stability
When such a figure engages directly with noted
community leaders, the message is clear: national cohesion is no longer a peripheral
concern; it is central to India’s future.
The
essence is simple yet profound:
If the
ship sinks, everyone on board sinks—regardless of identity, belief, background
or position.
This metaphor reframes the national conversation:
- From
identity politics to shared destiny
- From victimhood narratives to collective responsibility
- From
fragmentation to integration
It challenges every citizen—and
particularly influential voices within communities—to reconsider their role and
the way of thinking. The emphasis is not on what divides India, but on what
sustains it as a united India.
Victimhood vs Development: A Strategic Reorientation:
The meeting appears to have introduced a subtle but
firm shift:
- From entitlement to empowerment
- From dependency to participation and openness.
- From protest to progress of collective thinking.
This is not a denial of challenges; rather, it is
an invitation to transcend them.
India’s rise as a global power cannot accommodate
internal stagnation. Development must be inclusive—but it must also be
participatory.
- Religious Leaders – Custodians of community
sentiment and moral influence
- Intellectuals – Shapers of narrative and
thought leadership
- Businessmen – Drivers of economic
participation and mobility
This
triad represents influence across mind, spirit, and economy and therefore their
active participation in mobilising the community is the crying need.
By engaging this group, the message was clear:
Integration
is not imposed; it is negotiated through leadership within the community long
overdue.
Moreover,
it bypasses political intermediaries, allowing for a more direct and meaningful
dialogue has to be the primary goal.
The leaders upheld complete trust in the law
of the land and the Constitution.
The leaders agreed to respect the Supreme Court's
decision and asked the public to do the same, stressing that the country's
well-being is more important than anything else. They promised to work closely
with the government to keep the peace, maintain harmony between different
groups, and uphold the law.
The religious leaders also pledged their full
support for any steps the government takes to keep order in society. Finally, the leaders shared their pride in how
millions of people from all backgrounds stayed calm and acted responsibly after
the court’s ruling.
Why Now? The Global Context:
Timing, once again, is critical. India stands at a pivotal juncture of i) rising global influence
ii) Strategic positioning in a multipolar world
iii) Economic transformation and technological advancement, together with the
increasingly volatile global environment:
- Identity
conflicts across regions
- Religious
polarisation in many parts of the world
- Geopolitical
rivalries shaping internal narratives
The urgency
of the meeting can thus be understood as part of a broader geopolitical
calculus:
A divided India cannot lead; a cohesive India can
shape the world.
Economic Empowerment: The Core of Sustainable
Integration:
Development
is the most effective antidote to alienation. Key areas of emphasis likely
included:
- Skill development and education within the
Muslim community
- Integration into national economic frameworks
- Entrepreneurship
- Access to capital and markets
Economic participation may transform identity:
- From
marginalised to empowered
- From
dependent to self-sustaining
- From
peripheral to central
Reforming the Waqf Board: A Sensitive but Necessary
Step
Waqf
properties represent vast economic potential,
but their inefficient management and lack of transparency spoil the broth.
Urgent reform here is not merely administrative—it
is transformative in:
- Unlocking economic value
- Ensuring accountability
- Redirecting resources toward education and
welfare
Such
reforms, if executed sensitively, could become a cornerstone of community
empowerment.
The meeting implicitly outlined a
new social contract quietly but with nationalism at high pitch:
- Engage with the mainstream economy
- Invest in education and skill-building
- Reject divisive narratives/discard victim
cards
- Participate actively in national growth
This is not a demand for
assimilation, but an invitation for integration, non-negotiable.
India’s diversity remains its strength—but
diversity must operate within a shared uniform national framework.
Challenges Ahead: From Intent to Implementation:
- Deep-rooted mistrust in some sections
- Political resistance
- Socio-economic
disparities
- Global influences on local narratives
Success will depend on:
- Consistent
engagement
- Policy
support
- Community
leadership
- Measurable
outcomes
Invincible India: A Vision beyond Divisions:
- Social cohesion
- Economic inclusivity
- Cultural confidence
- Strategic clarity
Ajit Doval’s intervention can thus be seen as part
of a larger vision:
To align India’s internal dynamics with its
external ambitions. Dialogue over confrontation and integration over isolation represents a
strategic approach and a masterstroke towards national integration.
Conclusion: The Road Ahead
Those 90 minutes may
not make headlines in the conventional sense, but their significance lies in
their subtlety. Why now? Because India stands at a decisive geopolitical
juncture. As it seeks a larger global role, internal stability is a strategic
necessity. Divisions at home weaken credibility abroad; cohesion, by contrast,
enhances it.
Yet, intent alone will not suffice. The success of such initiatives
depends on sustained engagement, trust-building, and visible outcomes.
Community leadership must reciprocate by being willing to act/move beyond
entrenched narratives as resolved in the meeting, while the state must ensure that inclusion is backed by
opportunity.
In
essence, those 90 minutes mark a quiet recalibration of India’s internal
discourse in upholding the law of the land and the constitution. Not a
headline-grabbing event, but a potentially defining one. If pursued with
sincerity and consistency, it may well mark a step towards a more confident,
cohesive, and globally relevant India.
Disclaimer: This blog post is a humble attempt to
showcase the outstanding work of our ace NSA Sri Doval for his innovative
initiative to bring the Muslim community within the roomy fold of the national
mainstream and thereby ensure internal security is impregnable.
As a blogger well into my advanced
years, I may miss out on many developments, but the novel initiative by the NSA
appeared before me as long overdue. The path is not smooth and easy, yet a
prolonged endeavour bound to pay dividends. I always make sincere efforts to
present factual and well-probed information gathered from reliable media and
printed sources.
Above all, we must wholeheartedly long
for the success of the NSA in making India’s internal security invincible.
